Ben “Felix” Ungerman, a long-time Sarpy County resident and retired United States Air Force Colonel, is running to serve the people of District 3 in the Nebraska Legislature to be an advocate for Nebraskans from all walks of life. Felix knows the stakes and knows what it takes to lead with integrity, conviction, and compassion from day one. He has fought for freedom globally, and knows what it takes to preserve and improve the “Good Life” for all Nebraskans right here at home.
Prior to retiring in 2016, Felix spent nearly 25 years defending our nation in the United States Air Force. During his Air Force career, he served in numerous capacities to include a stint as White House Staff working Presidential Advance for President George W. Bush; working on the Joint Staff as the Liaison for policy and strategy in Pakistan; serving in Afghanistan commanding a counter-insurgency battalion; deployed in Islamabad Pakistan leading counter-terrorism efforts with the Pakistan Air Force; and managing military cooperation and training activities in the Republic of Georgia in Eastern Europe. His primary role in the Air Force was as an Electronic Warfare Officer flying global reconnaissance operations onboard RC-135s based at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska that began in 1994 and concluded with more than 2700 flight hours, and over 200 hours of combat and 900 hours of combat support time supporting combat operations in Haiti, Iraq, Bosnia, and Afghanistan.
Felix is currently serving as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02). In this capacity, he led the staff in earning the 2021 award for being the Top Congressional Office in Congress for Constituent Services. He also served as the 2020 Campaign Manager, District Director (2017-2020), and Deputy Campaign Manager (2016) for Congressman Bacon.
Felix has earned a Bachelor's Degree and three Master’s Degrees and earned the Bronze Star, Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Aerial AchievementMedal, Joint Service Achievement Medal along with the Army, Navy, and Air ForceAchievement Medals, and various U.S. and NATO combat campaign medals.
Felix has been married to his wife Katina for the past 27 years. They have three children and three grandchildren.
